Exp3: The Clients Articles

Here are some exerpts from my chosen articles on the clients for experiment 3. Click on the names of the client to go to the article.

Ratan Tata
  • “Tata has a reputation to defend as a living legend in the business world, shrouded in an aura of humility that borders on self-denial.”
  • “inspired by the idea of helping restore India's wealth. Long before many western industrial nations followed suit, his company introduced the eight-hour working day (1912), maternity leave (1928) and even profit sharing for employees (1934).”
  • “a symbol of india’s growing influence?” “And even if I don't see the deal symbolically -- maybe it shows that an Indian company now not only wants to play an important role in India, but also seeks to be a global player.”
Zhang Yin
  • “It was one of China's proverbs that Mao loved to quote; women, he would say, hold up half the sky.”
  • “an eloquent symbol of the new China; a capitalist whose success and wealth was unthinkable… It is capitalists such as her who are proof that paradoxically it is communist China that is home to the globe's most vigorous capitalism. And she is a woman.”
  • “But nobody should believe that somehow her fortune means that China has made the full transition to capitalism. Rather she has exploited the system's fault lines. This remains a one-party state, in which every institution - from the media to its companies - is constructed to sustain its monopoly of power.”
Carlos Slim Helu
  • Mr. Slim mapped out a vision of what he planned to do with his fortune. “It is a life project, it is a challenge,”
  • “Mr. Slim combines an omnivorous attention to detail with a penchant for simplicity. Everything you need to make a decision, he says, should fit on one sheet of paper.”
  • “He has a lot of money, and he can think about larger issues…He wants to be part of that world where making money is not an end in itself.”
  • “At some level I can applaud his philanthropy,” said Denise Dresser, a political analyst and professor at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, “but it would be better for Mexico if he stopped blocking competition first.”
